In 2010, Mexico will kick off a huge celebration celebrating its 200 years of independence with national and local public events. The Bicentennial actually takes place in two different celebrations. One celebration will be the Bicentennial of the 200 years of independence since 1810, and the second celebration of 100 years (a “centennial”) since the Mexican Revolution of 1910. Mexico's Independence Day is a celebration of the events and the people that helped to gain independence from Spain, the country that had control over the territory of New Spain, as Mexico was known at that time. Driven by over three centuries of oppression and fueled by a call to revolt by the Catholic priest Hidalgo, the call to arms was made in the small village of Delores, in the state of Guanajuato. This eventually pushed both peoples and nations into a violent battle over the freedom of Mexico.

Mexico's Bicentennial will be a worldwide event and people from all over will come to experience the event as well as celebrate abroad. There will be over 245 acres set aside for a Bicentennial Expo Park in the state of Guanajuato. The Expo park will show exhibitions and photos that will give visitors an inside look at Mexico's past and also allow them to reflect on the future of the nation. Plans for various pavilions to house historical, artistic, cultural, ecological and musical exhibits are said to be in place as well. You can expect to see folkloric events and gourmet tasting of Mexican dishes that will be the highlight of Mexican heritage.

Floral salute

One of the most eye-popping and special displays that you will see at the Guanajuato event will definitely be the elegant floral salute to the bicentennial. This float will be covered with over 50,000 roses and more than 30,000 florescent orange Sombrero and yellow freedom roses spelling out “Mexico 2010.” It will be outlined with lovely crisp white coconut flakes and edges of brilliant yellow petals of straw flowers. Pennants are creates for this float with thousands of red and white carnations and green parsley flakes. The Angel of Independence is beautifully displayed in finely cut gold straw flowers. She will sit atop of a column of dark and light lettuce seed in order to create the look of granite. You will be absolutely amazed at the detail and time that the creators of this marvel put into this display of Mexican tradition and heritage. There will be plenty of preparation occurring in the area in the near future. Construction of all kinds will be needed for the event. The roads will need to be altered in order to accommodate all of the people that will be attending the event.

You can expect to see the museums in the area to be highlighted along the Road of Independence beginning with Casa del Marques at Mexico City's Historic Center, and in Acapulco where the San Diego Fort Museum stands as a reminder of the battle where Jos? Mar?a Morelos fought for the country's independence. Other museums chosen for their priceless content, and in honor of the Bicentennial, are the Museum of the Viceroyalty, the National Anthropology Museum, the Allende Museum, the National History Museum, the Casa Morelos Museum and, finally, the Museum at the Home of Father Hidalgo. The Independence Road also includes the Freedom Route that travels in the footsteps of Miguel Hidalgo from Corralejo in Guanajuato to Chihuahua, passing by Queretaro and Michoacanas well.

The streets will be covered with Mexican flags and all types of floral displays made with the colors of the Mexican flag. You can stop in any of the stores while the celebration takes place as they will be eager to sell some of their celebratory goods for the parade. There will be all types of people dressed for the occasion in Mexican colors and women will be performing some traditional dances for everyone's viewing pleasure. There will be all sorts of delectable treats and drinks to taste, and the spirits will be high while celebrating the birth of this great country.BookIt.com is an online travel company determined and dedicated to becoming the leader in providing travelers with the most intuitive online booking experience full of relevant information, helpful guides and travel tips.
