Author: Patrick Daniels A die hard Tom Cruise fan, I was dying to see this one. Even tried to get it together to go and see it in the theaters, but it just never panned out. Not a big history fan, but this one was a blow you away type film. Sometimes looking at Cruise will make you think of his younger days, but within just a few minutes of the film, you become completely engrossed in his character and the story line and forget all about the Tom Cruise of the past. Valkyrie is a film that take a look at the Hitler regime in a way we have never seem before. Cruise's character, Claus Von Stauffenberg, was one of the few who fought to take down Hitler, the most evil tyrant the world has ever seen. It has a suspenseful and entrancing plot and give an in depth look at the time, place and minds of the characters. Filmed mainly in various locations in Germany, where many of the actual events occurred, including scenes of the historic Bendlerblock along with incredible costumes by Joanna Johnston gave an overall realistic feel, and yet is was modern enough, with many interesting characters to keep your interest as opposed to giving you the feeling like you were watching something from the history channel. Now that I have seen the movie on DVD, I am glad that I never did get to the theatres to see it. This DVD is filled with tons of extras and features, plus I didn't have to deal with the rude theatre goers. With the plot being so intriguing it would have been a shame to miss any bit of it. The musical scores were right on the money and helped add to the setting and the impact of this film. I have read some reviews myself on this film and honestly they seem to be mixed. But I tell you; if you like a film full of suspense, with good character development and some romance thrown in, then you will love this film. Not only that but perhaps you can learn a little something about WWII while youre at it, I know I did. About the Author: The Valkyrie DVD has finally been released and is something that everyone should add to their DVD collection.
