It's a good chance to really have your own time and space ? things that are incredibly hard to come by if you live, breathe and work in any urban landscape. Escaping to a editerranean villa can be a rejuvenating and health-boosting treat. Villa holidays provide an altogether different experience to that of a hotel: you have the perk of a private environment where you can come and go as you please, uninterrupted by the bustle of any other tourist.

It's not an award that any city wants to achieve but Barcelona has been ranked the pickpocket capital of the world. This is according to the review website TripAdvisor.com with the renowned area, La Rambla, being a particular pickpocket hotspot. Other cities which feature high on the pickpocket list include Rome, Prague, Madrid, Florence, Athens and Amsterdam in Europe and Buenos Aires and Hanoi further afield.

Regrettably the high incidence of theft abroad goes largely unreported. But it is a growing problem and affects thousands of holidaymakers abroad each year. Generally when we go abroad, our guard is down and this is what the professional gangs and pickpockets look out for. Whilst baggage that is lost, whilst under the control of the airline, may be attributed to theft, generally this will be marked down as lost in transit and a claim against the carrier and travel insurance will be fairly straight forward providing that a passenger irregularity report is obtained from the airline.

Flying off for your summmer holidays? Then its not certain that your luggage will arrive with you. The latest figures from the Post Office show that one in eight of us had experienced baggage delays in the last three years, with almost a quarter of this number waiting up to a week to get their luggage back. And its not likely to get better as, according to the Air Transport Users Council, a mind numbing 42 million bags were lost, delayed or damaged in 2007, and this is set to get worse year on year.

If you are watching your finances during this seemingly endless recession, you might be getting a bit gloomy and in need of a holiday - a short city break could be just the thing to recharge your batteries. Contrary to reports, flight prices have not gone up massively and if you do some careful research you can get a good deal.

The same is true of travel insurance - you might be tempted to skip this to save some cash, but by carrying out a travel insurance comparison you will see you can secure cover from as little as 5. Though a city break is more often that not a short break, this doesn't mean luggage can't get lost or accidents don't happen. Once you've secured the travel insurance you need you can concentrate on the fun part - looking forward to your trip away.

Forecasters are predicting the hottest temperatures so far this year over this Bank Holiday weekend but whatever the weather, the usual Bank Holiday getaway is expected to cause gridlock on the roads and bustling air and sea ports. Airport operator BAA said 1.68 million passengers would pass through its seven UK airports in the period from Friday to Bank Holiday Monday.

The AA has said that road journey times could increase by 50 per cent on Friday with a third more traffic than normal expected on popular routes. Congestion is expected on the M5 from the West Midlands to Exeter; the M6 from Lancaster to the Lake District; the M4, A40 and A48 to Wales and the A1 from Wetherby to Scotch Corner in north east England. Engineering works will also make train travel arduous.

Senior citizens are one of the most likely groups to holiday abroad, but it is also this group that can have the most difficulty in getting an affordable deal on travel insurance.

There are insurance companies that specialise in providing cover for the over 65’s, as well as a number of non-specialist policies available that cater for the older traveller.

However, some insurers no longer offer multi-trip annual travel insurance cover to older holiday makers, meaning that the older generation are often excluded from the cheapest travel insurance options available.

There are now a range of providers that offer cheap travel insurance for the older holidaymaker, however some customers still find themselves having to pay much higher premiums for the chance to go abroad due to the increased risks associated with their age group.
